Smoke Detectors Carbon Monoxide Detectors

When should I replace my smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors? The National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) recommends that you replace your Smoke Detectors every 10 years or sooner. We also recommend that you replace your Carbon Monoxide Detectors every 2-7 years.

NOTE: The 'test' feature on many detectors checks the functioning of the alarm and not the status of the detector.

When should I change the batteries in my Smoke Detectors? You should replace the batteries in all your smoke detectors at least once a year. One easy way to remember this is when you change your clocks for Daylight Savings time you should also change the batteries in your Smoke Detectors.

Does everyone need a Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector? The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires Smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home. Effective January 1, 2007, every New York home is required to have at least one Carbon Monoxide Alarm in an operating condition within 15 feet of every room used for sleeping purposes.

It is a proven fact that Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors save lives. They can only protect you if they are properly installed and maintained. Call Smart Choice Electric your New York and Westchester Electrician for all your Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector needs.
